If you watch the news at all (guilty, I don’t) you may have seen there is a lot going on with sunscreen right now! So, let’s talk sunscreen safety!
First, there are different types of sunscreen…
Chemical Sunscreens are technically sun filters. The vast majority of sunscreens on the market contain chemical sunscreen ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone or octocrylene. They’re called sun filters because they absorb the sun’s UV energy and release it back into the air as heat. They are popular because they provide easy, transparent blendability into the skin. They have been linked to skin irritation and other health issues.
Since 2009, I’ve struggled with ulcerative colitis before truly figuring out what triggered flares, and how to heal with food and lifestyle changes. I have always considered myself a healthy and informed person, but it wasn’t until I was faced with an autoimmune disease at 21 years old, that I knew absolutely nothing about that I realized something had to change. Enter my journey with clean products! I had changed my diet. But, I knew environmental factors are triggers for autoimmunity–so cleaning up everything I could control was a constant goal of mine. I became obsessed with it. Because, you can’t unknow something.
Once I had learned the toxins I had innocently been exposing myself to on a DAILY basis were terrible for my overall health and wellness, things had to change all around, it became my mission. I was so confused, mad, and eager for change. How could companies be allowed to sell products that are harmful to us?!
Y’all know I love a good leadership or personal development book, and oh my goodness, I’ve found a gem. This month I read The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell. Whoa, did it deliver the goods. Seriously, I took notes on every chapter, and know I will be referring to it often. It’s a very easy and quick read with VERY practical + achievable advice. Check it out here.
Thought I would switch things up a bit for this category! I receive email updates from the Environmental Working Group. They keep me up to date on recent studies and products as they relate to our health and environment. The Environmental Working Group’s mission is to empower people to live halthier lives in a healthier environment. With breakthrough research and education, they drive consumer choice and civic action. Check out the website here!

Back in October I read about half of High Performance Habits. It got a little heavy, and it was best I come back to it another time. That time is now! I picked up where I left off and timing for me is much better! It is a great book and I am learning new habits to help propel my business and life.
I am so happy you’ve stopped by!
I am here to fill your soul with some good vibes, health+wellness, damn good recipes, (duh, I got you girl, no one’s got time for a bad recipe) some safe beauty talk, inspiration, and all things beautiful. It’s likely you might not agree with some of the things I talk about, like, or discuss, and that is quite alright. We are allowed to have different opinions/views/beliefs and still respect each other. Remember, good vibes only.
I am a true believer that simple is beautiful and (healthy) chocolate cures a lot of things. I also believe in making yourself your number one priority, because if you don’t show up for yourself, you can’t show up for others. Nourishing and caring for your body is the key act of self love. So, do things that make you feel amazing, don’t get all caught up in the small stuff. Make a conscious effort do be better and do better every day. It’s about progress, not perfection.
