My go-to at home facial

You know those times in between your professional facial you just need a pick-me-up?! This is exactly what this at home facial is for! It delivers a smooth, more even, glowing skin tone!

It’s broken down in to all of the steps, and should take approximately 30 minutes, and some of that time, you can be doing other things, like while the mask is drying!

Can’t wait for you to try it!

Step one: Cleanse

Typically I will do a double cleanse here to make sure my face is good and clean and all of my makeup is removed! So, I will do the cleansing balm followed by the charcoal bar!

Step two: Tone

Toner is an essential step to any skin care routine. Don’t skip it. Toner helps to close the pores and tighten the skin! Toner is a fast-penetrating liquid that delivers skin a quick hit of hydration, it’s kind of like primer for the rest of your routine. The result: plump, glowy skin. Yes, please!

Some of my favorite toners are the Beautycounter Countertime hydrating Mineral Essence, Beautycounter Rosewater mist or Balancing Mist. I use all three of these at different times, but specifically for my at home facial in this specific step, my go to is the balancing mist! It’s super refreshing and smells like peppermint!

Step three: Dermaplaning

Caution: I don’t advise that you try this for the very first time at home. Go see an esthetician and get it done so you know what to expect!

Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that basically shaving your face! It removes the peach fuzz aka vellus hair and tons of dead skin cells from your skin. Did you know, right now, you have layers upon layers of dead skin cells hanging out on your face, contributing to some of the most annoying skin issues: wrinkles, acne breakouts, dullness, you name it. UGH, right?!

So, how do you do it?! At home, these are the razors I use. So, you will want to slightly stretch your skin to keep it taut and you will scrape along your face in upward motions. Honestly, if you’ve never done it, PLEASE watch a video before you try it at home! It sounds kind of scary, but trust me, it’s a super gentle process that takes about 5 minutes start to finish. There should be no pain or discomfort.

You can expect to have smoother skin, no hair, brighter and smoother skin. Your skincare products will penetrate so much better (making them much more effective) when you apply them, and your makeup will go on so smoothly!

Step four: Charcoal Mask

Ok, for real, don’t skip this. 10 minutes to tighter pores and less oil. You will be so glad you did it! I like to apply with a flat complexion brush to minimize the mess and it goes on super quickly with a brush!

This kaolin clay charcoal mask is nutrient rich and deep cleans, balances, absorbs excess oils and draws out the nasty impurities.

Why charcoal:  Activated charcoal minimizes the appearance of pores, giving skin a smooth, refined appearance, while salicylic acid stimulates exfoliation.

After washing the charcoal mask off and drying off your face, it’s time for the next step! Almost finished!

Step six: Extractions

Another caution: if you’ve never had this done, I suggest having it done for the first time with a professional!

This step is the process of clearing out a clogged or compacted pore. Here is the tool almost identical to the one  I use.   I do this mainly on my nose where I get the most congestion! It’s not comfortable, but it isn’t unbearable either!

Again, PLEASE have this done professionally if you’ve never had it done. You could damage your skin if you don’t know what you’re doing!

Step seven: Tone, yes again!

We just finished a mask and extractions, time to close those pores back up! This time I will use either the Beautycounter Rose Water Mist or the new Countertime Hydrating Mineral Essence! Both are wonderful!

Step eight: Overnight Resurfacing Peel

My favorite step, THE PEEL. Beware, since you dermaplaned earlier, this step will sting just a tiny bit! You will take two pumps and apply to your face and neck. BE SURE to let it dry for at least 5 minutes!

This peel is like magic. Seriously, you go to be dull and wake up glowing, plus it does all the things!

It is formulated with 15 botanically-derived acids, this leave-on AHA/BHA peel improves skin texture and minimizes the appearance of pores, fine lines, and dark spots without irritation or over-drying. Glycolic, lactic, and malic acids clear away dull surface skin cells, while hyaluronic acid and essential fatty acids soothe and nourish to reveal a brighter, more youthful-looking complexion.

Yes, please, sign me uppppp!

Step 9: Night Cream

My two go-to night creams are the Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream and the new Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream. I rotate between the two.

If you are looking for something lighter, for sure, the Countermatch Sleep Cream, and if you need a little heavier, the Countertime Supreme Cream is for you!

Just in case, take the skin care quiz here to see exactly which one your skin needs!

Step ten: Eye Cream

Cannot forget this! No one has time for wrinkles, bags, and dark circles! Again, I switch between the Countermatch eye cream and the Countertime eye cream! Both are great and have amazing benefits!

This at home facial happens at least every other week. It is perfect to do in between the once a month professional facials that I get. If you like doing things yourself, give this tried and true at home mani/pedi a try!
